In the nude

A selection of nude shoes

“A woman can carry a bag, but it is the shoes that carry a woman.”- Christian Louboutin
(Some wise words from the shoe-master himself).

One of my biggest passions and loves are shoes!!! I am a classic cliché: a girl with more shoes than anything else. I buy shoes I never wear and can’t really afford, but they are so gloriously beautiful I can’t help myself.

However, you can never go wrong with a nude (flesh-coloured) pair. A good pair of nude shoes are like putting make-up on your feet, creating a foundation from where to start your outfit-of-the-day (and they elongate your legs as well!!!) It is a classic and timeless item you can always depend on, either for a black tie event or even for a day at the beach. A well-rounded outfit has the perfect accessories and this includes shoes, whether it is a pair of flip flops, wedges or heels. Think about it this way: When you’re having a bad day just look down at your feet and, if you’re wearing beautiful shoes, it will definitely brighten up your day.

The above pictures are just some examples of nude shoes.

And always remember: the foot contains more bones than any other single part of the body so technically it means that you can spend most of your savings on shoes, right?

…Don’t judge me unless you've walked a while in my (nude) shoes.

Loving Loafers

A beautiful & stylish pair of Free2BU loafers my sister bought at Edgars

Have you ever loved an item of fashion so much but just can't have it? ...most people would answer yes and further explain that it was due to the fact that fashion is sometimes just a bit too expensive. (Like a pair of Christian Louboutins, any pair, I just want those red soles!!!).... However, thanks to more afordable brands and stores replicating cheaper versions of catwalk trends, almost anyone can afford a pair of loafers. The unfortunate situation I am in is that I still haven't found a pair of loafers that looks good or acceptable on me. The pictured pair cost  a mere R100 and the owner can feel comfortably stylish in the company of the more fortunate (wearing Steve Madden loafers).

This raises the question: When must one accept that a fashion trend or item must be ignored? And when, like Tim Gunn would say, you have to 'make it work' ?
Fashion and individual style is all about taking risks and discovering the fashionista within while keeping an eye on trends (just as a guideline and suggestion), and exploring and figuring out what works for you and what represents you perfectly.

Now I ask myself, must I accept that my closet will never have a pair of loafers within? Or do I have to keep on looking and searching for that elusive pair that will look & feel perfect on my feet? ...I still do not know, but I'll keep you posted ;-)

Accessorize

This little amateur Instagram photo is of my accessories for a beach wedding I attended in Mozambique.
Accessorize... it's not just the name of one of my favourite stores (ps: oh how I love the little Accessorize areas in Edgars stores, after I've been to the Forever New areas of course!). Accessories can make or break an outfit. As this particular wedding was on the beach and I did not want to shine bright (like a diamond), I opted for some braiding and turquoise instead.
My dress was a cobalt blue chiffon one with little detail on the bodice therefore the acccessories could have been any colour in the universe and I selected colours that fits in perfectly on a white Mozambique beach with the turquoise ocean in the background.

This little collection on my arm originates from different shops in South Africa and did not cost me a fortune...
They are from a little amazing shop(the name escapes me) in Heidelberg Gauteng as well as Sass Diva (Brooklyn Mall) and two of the bracelets are little charity bracelets you can buy at Edgars or CNA.

These bracelets were the only jewelry I wore to this wedding as I could hear the voice of Coco Chanel in the back of my head saying: "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory."

...and who will ever try to argue with the stylish Coco Chanel?... not me
